Spherical Mapping in SketchUp
Spherical mapping is possible in sketchup with the use of script. Here is how it works
1. Download free ruby pluggin by Dale Martens "Whaat" called UV tools
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
2. Place this ruby script in your SketchUp plugin root folder
3. Now import your texture. In this tutorial I will position texture (exploded) in the sphere. Be sure that the map is projected

4. Apply the projected texture to the sphere. This is the result of the projected. You will see that there is stretching on the texture.

5. Now use the script UV tool. Select the material in the sphere, right click, select UV tools then click cylindrical map.
